Due to the accelerated growth of large breed dogs such as Great Pyrenees,  I would suggest for the first 12 mo. feeding your puppy a diet of high quality meat based, moderate protien/fat/calorie food, fed in properly measured amounts.  No corn/soy/wheat.  We feed ours Diamond brand large breed puppy, Lamb & Rice formula.

NO. They are actually very easy to keep looking good. If you can brush you Pyr for 30 minutes a week that will control matting and keep shedding to a minimum.  We bath ours in the summer months.

A Pyrs thick double  coat is for two main reasons, To keep them warm in extreme cold temps and for protection from predators such as coyotes, bears ect. I have never shaven any of mine even though temps get into the 90s during the summer. If you live in a warmer climate, it is important that your Pyr has access to shade.   The choice is yours. .

Absolutely. But keep in mind these are very big dogs who shed alot and will still need alot of room to exercise.  Several of our buyers have made their Pyrs indoor dogs and do just fine.

Cold weather should never be an issue even as pups. These dogs were bred to be in cold mountain conditions.  You do however, need to have a source of shelter for them.  Hot temps are a little harder on them because of their heavy coat. As long as you have shelter for them to get out of the sun and keep plenty of fresh water for them they will be fine.

The ideal size for a Male will be approx. 27 to32 inches tall at the withers and between 100 and 125 pounds.  Females range between 25 and 29 inches tall at the withers and weight between 90 to 115 pounds. These are the ideal standards.
